Dr. Pranitha Kamat

Performer • Educator • Scientist

Dr. Pranitha Kamat, originally from Bangalore and now based in Switzerland for over 14 years, is an artist whose journey bridges tradition, education, and science with equal passion. As a performer, Pranitha has brought the grace and depth of Bharatanatyam to international audiences, with appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Kunsthalle Zurich, and Lange Nacht der Museen Zurich. Her work is dedicated to making this ancient dance form not only authentic, but also approachable and relevant to audiences of today.

Pranitha holds a Diploma in Bharatanatyam from Bharathidasan University and is a passionate educator. She teaches at her studio in Birr, offering regular classes for beginners. She also provides consultation sessions for parents, guiding them on how to nurture their children’s interest in classical arts. As an advocate for arts in early education, Pranitha conducts lectures and workshops for teachers in schools and dance institutions, sharing creative methods to engage children in dance—even when teachers themselves may not have formal training. She is the author and publisher of educational books and interactive materials on Bharatanatyam through her initiative Natya Chittra, which strives to make classical arts accessible to everyone.

Pranitha is the founding member of Swiss Natya Sabha. Since 2024, she has been the director of the annual festival “Nartana Priya”, a platform designed to feature local Swiss-based artists and to bring Bharatanatyam closer to audiences. The festival draws both Indian and Swiss communities, fostering cultural dialogue and inclusivity.

Beyond the arts, Pranitha is a Biomedical Scientist and currently serves as a Principal Investigator at a CRO in Basel. Her dual journey in arts and science reflects her belief in the transformative power of creativity, discipline, and knowledge—values she brings to every performance, classroom, and research project.

Through her multifaceted roles as performer, educator, organiser, consultant, and scientist, Dr. Pranitha Kamat continues to nurture the next generation of artists, support cultural exchange, and celebrate the timeless beauty of Bharatanatyam.
