Olga Chemerys is a dedicated Bharatanatyam dancer and expert in Hindi language and Indian Culture.
Olga's journey with Indian culture began in 2005 when she started studying Hindi and Indian Culture at the university in Kyiv, Ukraine. This study piqued her interest in Indian classical dance, which led her to discover Bharatanatyam.
In 2007, Olga began learning Bharatanatyam under the tutelage of Ganna Smirnova in Kyiv. Her passion for this art form led her to pursue an ICCR scholarship to study Bharatanatyam in Delhi, India, for three years under the guidance of Guru ji Jayalakshmi Eshwar.
During her time in India, Olga also continued to deepen her knowledge of Hindi language and Indian culture. She lived in India for over five years, which provided her with ample opportunities to immerse herself in the country's rich cultural heritage.
Over the years, Olga has honed her skills in Bharatanatyam through attending workshops with renowned dancers, personal practice, and guidance from esteemed mentors such as Rukmini Vijayakumar and Ramachandran Muralidharan.
Under the expert guidance of Ramachandran Muralidharan, Olga was part of a group that established a Guinness World Record for Bharatanatyam in August 2021.
Since 2021, Olga has also been creating videos in Hindi to share her love and appreciation for Indian culture, art, and traditions, reaching audiences beyond the stage.
In 2023 Olga won the first prize for her short film "Indian Culture: Imprints On My Mind" in the International Filmmaking Competition organized by Routes2Roots NGO and ICCR.
Deepening her connection to the dance’s ancient roots, Olga completed training in all 108 Karanas under the guidance of renowned dancer and teacher Vithya Arasu. She continues to expand her knowledge and refine her practice of the Karanas under Vithya Arasu’s mentorship.
In 2023, she joined Vithya Arasu’s Europe tour, performing in Cologne (Germany), Madrid (Spain), and Basel (Switzerland). Beyond the tour, she graced the stage at the Festival of Cultures in Bern and participated in the Sisterhood Rebirth programme.
